A substantial Victorian Railway Side and Tail Lamp with red and clear bullseye lenses set in cast brass bezels. The chimney is stamped “VRB 1899” and this is repeated on the original four tube rape oil burner vessel. The lamp body is also painted “5/5/602” and “Side Lamp”. Engraved brass Locomotive Builders Plate “No. 1871 Doncaster 1938”. Said to be a replacement plate for the ‘A4’ Pacific 60006 “Sir Ralph Wedgwood” but the works number refers to that of the locomotive destroyed by enemy action at York in 1942! This plate obviously carried by a locomotive may have been cast at Cowlairs Works during the loco’s transfer to Scotland. Much food for thought – make up your own interpretations!
