Cast brass Two Piece Locomotive Nameplate “Sir Charles Newton” as carried by the LNER A4 Class 4-6-2 built at Doncaster in 1938 and originally named “Capercaillie”. It was re-named “Charles H. Newton” after the Chief General Manager of the LNER in August 1942 and re-named again in June 1943 following his Knighthood. A Gateshead regular ‘A4’ it was w/d March 1964 from Aberdeen Ferry Hill with a life mileage of 1,330,582 and cut up by Campbell’s, Airdrie. The nameplate is 86.5in. long overall and is face restored only with the end holes face drilled (in service) so easier for wall mounting. (See next three lots and lot 500). | n/s |
