Cast iron Locomotive Smokebox Numberplate “68499” as carried by the LNER J69 Class 0-6-0T. Built at Stratford in 1890 and rebuilt in 1904 to J69 / 1. Numbered 7337 / 8499 & 68499 in Oct. 1948. During 1927 – 28 the loco was one of 20 class members transferred to the Scottish area, 68499 being sent to Carlisle Canal. It returned south in 1944 to Kings Lynn followed by South Lynn, March and Stratford from where it was w/d Sept. 1962 and cut up at the works. A well-travelled engine indeed. The smokebox is face painted only a while ago. |
