Cast brass Locomotive Nameplate “Barnsley” with its brass half football as carried by the LNER B17 Sandringham Class 4-6-0 built by Robert Stephenson & Co. in 1937 and numbered 2869. Re-numbered 1669 in Feb. 1946 then re-built to B17/6 in Sept. 1949. Finally becoming BR No. 61669. Its allocations were Ipswich, Stratford, Norwich, Cambridge, Leicester, Colwick, Annesley, Woodford and Ipswich again from where it was w/d in Sept. 1958 and cut up at Doncaster. The nameplate and ball are as presented to the football club by the British Transport Commission on a polished wooden backing board incorporating the club colours, and a chromed presentation plaque. The nameplate is 59.5in. long & the ball is 8.5in. diameter |
