LNER engraved brass Locomotive Builder’s Plate “London North Eastern Railway Co. No. 1580 Doncaster 1923”. As carried by the 02 Class 2-8-0 into Traffic in Dec. 1923. It became 3493 in 1924, 3938 in 1946 and 63938 in 1949. A Grantham engine for many years it was regularly employed on the High Dyke Ironstone Quarry System south of the town. It was withdrawn in Sept. 1963 and cut up at Rigley’s Bulwell Forest Wagon Works in Feb. 1964. A nice example of one of these worksplates face polished only. |
