Small bell of LNWR vintage recovered from the Cromford & High Peak Railway on closure. The bell was installed in the winding engine house at the summit of the famous 1 in 14 incline up to Middleton top. Wagons were rope hauled up the incline via the winding engine, the bell being a signal to commence hauling operations. The bell is cracked and is still attached to its metal spring. Humble but historic. 245mm. long overall (9.6in). |
