“The Midland Grand Hotel” circular silver plated Platter by Elkington with a decorative sylised oak leaf rim design. The title nicely top marked using gothic capital letters opposite the company’s wyvern device. Good condition. 307mm. dia. (12in). This magnificent hotel designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott in the gothic style opened in May 1873. It closed in April 1935 and used as offices by BR until Aug. 1985. Now undergoing refurbishment. |
