Furness Rly. Carriage Roof Pot Lamp. The top bears two large brass plates “Furness Railway Company manufactured by Messenger & Sons Birmingham” and “F.R.C. Barrow Inspection Saloon No. 2”. The unusually shaped glass globe encloses the original “F.R.C.” marked burner and has a decorative glass terminal meant to be seen when inside the coach. The clasp fastener is secured by brass peg and chain. The four wheeled inspection saloon for the use of the company’s General Manager, Sir James Ramsden was kept in a private siding at Furness Abbey station close to Sir James’s home. It was built by Wright Bros., Birmingham in 1865 and had an external verandah. It was lit internally by two of these lamps. This example is in superb condition and is an astonishing survivor. Fabulous. |

Cast iron Locomotive Smokebox Numberplate “48247”. As carried by 8F Class 2-8-0 loco. A Northampton (1H) engine in the mid-60’s it was withdrawn from Rose Grove in Aug. 1968 at the end of BR steam and cut up by Wards of Beighton in Dec. The plate has a neat welded repair between 8 and 2 and is painted both sides. One of the last steam locos in BR service. |

One of the bone holders is marked “W.Watts Manr. & Leeds Railway”. This company was opened in 1839 and in 1847 became the Lancashire & Yorkshire Rly. A rare survivor indeed. |

Shrewsbury Loco No. 9537 Built under British Letters Patent.” Face lightly polished only. 5x4in. as carried by a Standard Gauge 4WTG vertical boilered loco built in 1952, new to Chesterfield Tube Co. and named “Susan” after one of the children of a works director. It was sold into preservation to J. Morris of Lytham St. Annes in 1965 and in 1984 went to Buckingham Rail Centre at Quainton Road where it was restored to service in 1993. |
