217 Double sided wooden station Train Finger Board “Oxford, Southampton, Bournemouth, Poole” with feathered arrows. Fine original condition 1575mm. (62in) long. Ex-Nottingham Victoria Station. 229 Possibly Caledonian Railway 12in oak drop cased Wall Clock with a glazed lenticle and a chain driven fusee movement by Winterhalder & Hoffmeier of Schwarzenbach, Germany. The ex-service dial is written “LM&S Rly. Coy.” and records show that the clock was located at St. Rollox Motive Power Depot (Works Alcove) in Glasgow. A fine clock in working order complete with pendulum and key.
218 GWR single aspect Cart Lamp unusually featuring a “GWR” etched front lens. Complete with original “GWR” marked vessel, “GWR” burner, back mounted reflector and rear blade bracket. Very good unrestored condition. 230 Great Western Rly. Office Lamp. Originally gas powered, later converted to electricity. Comprises a shaped cast brass base, with patent number, a swan necked support arm with filigree brass decoration stamped “GWR” and an adjustable bell shaped glass shade with acid etched decoration. The gas tap is also stamped “GWR”. v.g.c. 440mm. (17.3in) tall. A splendid and scarce item originating from the company’s offices at Exeter.
219 Southern Railway fully titled small enamel Notice re : Ticket Conditions, passenger luggage etc. Six lines of text. v.g.c. with no chips and fine deep colour and shine. 227x152mm. (9x6in). 231 Cast iron Locomotive Shedplate “74A” (Ashford). A scarce early code. “BR(S)” Eastleigh triangle to back. Face restored only.
220 BR(Scottish Region) double royal pictorial Poster “Lock Eck, Argyll” by Frank Sherwin. A tape repaired tear approx. 8 inches long plus other edge nicks and a small loss to bottom r.h. corner. Three horizontal folds. This poster was recovered from Daggons Road station on the West Moors - Salisbury Line which closed in 1964. 232 Top rim cut from a metal Milk Churn embossed around the perimeter “Prideaux Creamery Evercreech S&DJRly.” with a loose internal card disc. This item has been used by our vendor as a waste paper bin for many years! 340mm. dia. x 112mm. deep (13.5x4.5in). A milk loading dock was provided at Evercreech New Station.
221 Box of Railway Books. All British content and a good selection. v.g.c. in the main. (15). 233 BR(S) “British Railways” enamel Mini Totem recovered from a notice board at Bournemouth West Station on closure in 1965. Re-touched minor edge wear only. Scarce.
222 As Previous Lot. (15). 234 “Jacob & Co’s. Biscuits” advertising Picture featuring a painting by E.A. Cox titled “The Helmsman” portraying three seamen in early 17th Century attire in Rembrandt style. In its original black ebonized glazed frame with moulded design incorporating the title “Jacob’s Biscuits” running around the total perimeter. v.g.c. 740x522mm. (29x20.5in).
223 Southern Railway fully titled cast iron “Private Road” Notice. Face restored only. 235 GWR polished bone Guards Whistle clearly incised with the company initials. Quite an unusual style and in working order. v.g.c.
224 Wrigley’s Chewing Gum wall mounted Vending Machine. Enamel side and front panels with metal top capping and brass drawer pull. Wooden back panel and base foot. Minor service wear to bottom of enamel panels otherwise v.g.c. 790mm. (31in) tall. 236 Metropolitan Railway original Coat of Arms Transfer nicely mounted onto a polished wooden panel and presented in a glazed frame with gilt slip. 600x520mm. (23.6x20.5in). This is the sixth coat of arms from the collection of the London Railway Club / Woolwich Railway Museum in our sale today.
225 MR 3 aspect Handlamp. The body stamped “MR Co.” has an oval brass plate “Midland Railway 14706B” and a metal disc “11”. Complete with “MR Co” vessel, burner, reflector and all glasses. Restored. 237 London Chatham and Dover Railway 3 aspect Handlamp. Top stamped “LCDR No. 1516”. The body stamped “LCDR 1343” and brass plated “S.R.A. G2105”. Complete with correct large pattern SR Ashford vessel, BRS burner, reflector and all glasses (blue cracked). Restored.
226 Cast iron Locomotive Smokebox Number Plate “70026”. As carried by BR ‘Britannia’ Class 4-6-2 “Polar Star”. The loco was built in 1952 and into traffic at Cardiff Canton. Later sheds were Aston, Holyhead and Stockport. It was withdrawn in Jan 1967 and cut up by Cashmores, Newport in May 1967. The plate has been repainted over old paintwork, the numerals lightly polished. This locomotive was involved in the tragic accident at Milton near Didcot on 20th November 1955. A copy of the official Milton Accident Report complete with diagrams accompanies the lot. 238 Great Northern Rly cast iron Notice “Any person who omits to shut and fasten this gate will be liable to a penalty of forty shillings”. Stamped in the back “GNRS” twice. Nicely face restored only.
227 Carriage Print “Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk” by J.Fletcher Watson from the LNER 1945 - 47 Series and one of only four prints by this artist. In an original type glazed frame. Slightly faded but a scarce print. 239 “BR-WR 1336 Parcel Porter” cloth Armband. v.g.c. and complete with leather straps.
228 A Station Wall Lamp complete with copper cap, brass vessel, Duplex burner, glass chimney and three glazed panels. The vessel unusually sits in a raised ring. v.g.c. and restored. 580mm. (23in) tall. 240 BR(S) fully flanged enamel Station Totem Sign “Canterbury West”. A creased wing has resulted in restored enamel loss plus other chips to face and edges. Very good colour and shine. A former SER station opened in Feb. 1846 as Canterbury. West added in July 1899.
