145 Brass Locomotive Whistle with turned finial. Probably from an industrial tank loco as we have been unable to relate it to any main line engine. Very well constructed and in v.g.c. 235mm. (9.25in) tall and connected to some later pipework. 157 BR(W) cast iron Locomotive Smokebox Numberplate “4246” as carried by 42XX 2-8-0 Tank Loco built at Swindon. Later shed allocations were Newport Ebbw Jct and Aberbeeg. Withdrawn Dec. 1962 and cut up by Birds of Risca one year later. The plate is unrestored with the loco details painted on the back.
146 Cast iron Locomotive Shedplate “74E” (St. Leonard’s). A very scarce early code in fine unrestored condition. 158 Pair of Southern Railway enamel and nickel Lapel Badges worn by staff of the Marine Department. One example is titled “SR Steward 29” with pin back, the other bears the full company title and “200” with buttonhole back. v.g.c. (2).
147 Steel Single Line Key “Marchwood - Fawley 11” adapted for re-use with the fitting of a trafolite overplate “Sway - New Milton”. Used during temporary engineering work on the Southampton to Bournemouth Main Line. 159 Original Coat of Arms Transfer “Port Talbot Railway & Docks Company” nicely applied onto a disc then mounted within a boxed glazed frame. 352x352mm. (13.8x13.8in). A scarce item of heraldry and the fourth from the collection of the London Railway Club / Woolwich Railway Museum in our sale today.
148 Two Books “History of the Southern Railway” Volumes One & Two by C.F. Dendy Marshall revised by R.W. Kidner. Hardbacked 562pp. plus folding maps published in 1963. The definitive two part work on the Southern. Complete with dust wrappers which have minor tears / losses. The contents very clean and tight. (2). 160 Pair of LSWR cast iron Gradient Arms “80” and “192” from the S&DJR Line near Evercreech Junction. Restored a while ago.
149 “The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway” by L.T. Catchpole. 35pp. and published by the Oakwood Press Hardbacked in 1949, the fourth edition. A fine early edition in splendid condition throughout. 161 Rectangular cast aluminium Locomotive Builders Plate “British Railways Doncaster 1965 Electricl Equipment by Associated Electrical Industries & The English Electric Co. Ltd.” As carried by BR Bo-Bo 404hp Class AL6 OHWE Loco. No. E3110 to Traffic June 1965 at Crewe. Renumbered 86027 12/73, 86327 6/80 and 86427 5/85. Named “The Industrial Society” at Euston 7/85. Plates removed 6/99. Now 86627 and in service with Freightliner. The plate is lightly face restored only and stamped “86027” and “86327” in the ex-loco back. 216x146mm. (8.5x5.75in).
150 Box of Miscellaneous Signal Box Lever Plates with original painted descriptions. Five in total including one embossed “LB&SCR” together with a small “GWR” cast iron windlass handle. (6) 162 BR(W) fully flanged enamel Station Sign “Waiting Room”. A few re-touched chips which have discloured with age. Could be much improved with better colour matching. Very good colour and shine. 915x305mm. (36x12in).
151 Carriage Print “The Cinque Port of Dover” by Jack Merriott from the Southern Region Series issued in 1952. This is the large format print and is the second of the full set of five in our sale today. v.g.c. and in an original type glazed frame. See also lots 7, 176, 263 & 374. 163 BR(S) fully flanged enamel Station Totem Sign “Fratton”. Very minor flange chips only. Superb condition with excellent colour and shine. A former LSWR & LBSCR Portsmouth station opened in July 1885. Renamed Fratton & Southsea in July 1905 reverting back to Fratton in Dec 1921.
152 SR (LSWR pattern) four aspect Handlamp. “E” Eastleigh brass plate to top. Body stamped “SR” and brass plated “S&DJR Evercreech Junction P.Way”. Complete with “SR” marked vessel, burner and reflector and all glasses (small corner crack to orange). A fine lamp from a location, the epitome of the S&D in good ex-service condition. 164 BR(S) fully flanged enamel Station Sign “Way Out”. Small chips to green only. Very good colour and shine. 610x460mm. (24x18in).
153 Cast iron Locomotive Shedplate “1A” (Willesden). Face restored only. 165 Shrewsbury and Hereford Railway Poster Timetable for April 1860. Minor losses to corners and across top edge but this is a very early and scarce survivor in generally very good condition. Laid on card and presented in a glazed frame. 665x555mm. (26x21.8in) overall.
154 BR(Western Region) double royal pictorial Poster “Harlech Castle” by Ronald Lampitt. A fine view of the fortress standing high above the fields. Some tape stains to edge and a repaired tear in the title panel. Also some light creasing in this area but the main view unaffected and with no folds. 166 Midland Railway mahogany cased Non-Pegging Signal Box Block Instrument clearly stamped “MR Co” three times on the roof and twice on face. Hand engraved “Down Line” brass plate and “Train on Line / Line Clear / Line Blocked” enamel Description plate. Good condition throughout.
155 South Western Railway ceramic Wash Hand Basin. Corner fitting style with integral upstands to two faces. The bowl is lettered “SWR” in intertwined script and has two soap recesses. Complete with holder to receive a chained plug which is not present. Date impressed for 1900 underneath with other pottery marks. A splendid, most unusual and rare survivor in v.g.c. Would look wonderful in your downstairs loo! 167 S&DJR Line Signal Box Train Register from Corfe Mullen Box covering the period 11/9/1963 to 9/6/64. Many interesting column notes including references to 9F 92220 “Evening Star” and a light engines movement involving 4F 44558 and 7F 53807 which was photographed by Ivo Peters in one of his books. v.g.c.
156 “Great Western Railway” cast iron Boundary Post Top bolted to a very short stub piece of broad gauge rail which makes it much easier to transport and display! Unrestored. 168 S&DJR Book of distances for charging merchandise by passenger train from Templecombe station together with an Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants hardbacked census of wages etc. report dated 1908. Both with interesting content and good condition. (2)
