265 Co-operative Wholesale Society mid-1930’s Promotional Jigsaw Puzzle featuring a train of ‘CWS’ trucks hauled by an ex-LYR steam locomotive titled “A train load of good things from CWS factories - for Co-operators. They cannot be beaten!”. The assembled puzzle is in v.g.c. and presented in a glazed frame with card slipmount. 418x330mm. overall. (16.5x13in). Unusual and scarce. 277 Derwent Valley Light Railway Station Platform Lamp Top from Cottingwith. The station name in blue in one of the main glass side panels. A very impressive lamp with white glass roof panels and polished copper features. 870mm. tall (34.25in) and nicely restored. The DVLR ran from York (Layerthorpe) to Cliff Common on the NER Selby to Market Weighton Line. Cottingwith station opened in July 1913 and closed long ago in Sept. 1926. A very scarce lamp accompanied by the original owner’s letter of provenance.
266 Oval cast aluminium Locomotive Builders Plate “Andrew Barclay Sons & Co. Ltd. Caledonia Works Kilmarnock No. 2276 1949” as carried by 0-4-0 ST new to Mainsforth Colliery (their no. 51). In 3/1962 it moved to East Hetton Colliery and then in 11/1965 to Dean & Chapter Colliery. The plate is in ex-loco condition 249x184mm. (9.8x7.25in). 278 Great Eastern Railway wooden Cigar Box. Both sides of the lid secured by a clasp fastener are impressed “GER” in large intertwined script letters. v.g.c. and complete with a cigar! 210x137x60mm. (8.25x5.4x2.3in).
267 Pair of pewter Medals struck to commemorate the openings of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway September 15th. 1830. One medal bears the opening details with an image of the viaduct over the Sankey Canal and valley on the reverse; the other medal has the head of “Geo. Stephenson Esq. Engineer” with an image of the bridge at Newton with opening details on the reverse. Historic items in v.g.c. (2). 279 Cast aluminium Road Sign “Malton” with all reflective beads. Top and bottom panels read “Scarborough 22m” and “York 18m”. Very good ex-roadside condition. 960x510mm. (37.8x20in).
268 GNR large 3 aspect Handlamp. The top is stamped “GNR 2829” and date coded for Nov. 1890. The body is also stamped “GNR 2829” and brass plated “Great Northern Railway Company Newark 22”. Complete with vessel “LNER” burner, reflector, copper lens cone and all glasses. A nice restored example. 280 LNER fully titled cast iron Notice “Beware of Trains look both up and down the line before you cross”. Casting No. “021”. Face restored only a while ago.
269 “North Eastern Railway” fully titled paper Notice “Issue of Tickets” stating that the ticket office will be open 15 minutes before the departure of train. Dated “York 1st. January 1894”. Damp mark to lower left corner otherwise v.g.c. and in its original wooden cruciform glazed frame. The notice was recovered from Cockfield Fell station on the Bishop Auckland - Barnard Castle Line in 1963, the station having closed five years earlier. 281 London & South Western Rly. 4 aspect Handlamp. Top stamped “L&SWR” and brass plated “141”. Body also plated “141” and stamped “L&SWR 3031” complete with “L&SWR” sloping fronted vessel, “SR” burner, “LSWR” reflector and all glasses. Restored.
270 Oval cast iron Locomotive Shedplate “24A” Accrington, modified by BR from 24E Blackpool. Face restored only a while ago. The plate is ex-Stanier 2-6-4 Tank Loco No. 42643. 282 Pictorial enamel Advertising Sign “Redferns Rubber Heels & Soles for all repairs” incorporating a policeman chasing a young lad wearing the said product. Maker’s name “Whittle Eccles”. Chips to some screwholes and light edge wear only. 1220x508mm. (48x20in).
271 A fine quality “LNER” Sherry Glass. The intertwined company initials embossed on the face of the glass rather than the more common etched version. v.g.c. 102mm. tall. (4in). 283 Carriage Print “Rhosneigr, Anglesey” by Montague B. Black. A nice seaside view of dinghies in the sandy harbour from the Midland Region (A) Series issued in 1950. A nick and some light creasing to right end margin. In an original type glazed frame.
272 Cast brass Underground Mine Car Plate embossed “Manufactured by Robert Hudson Ltd. Gildersome Foundry Leeds England”. Unrestored ex-vehicle condition. Rectangular with pointed ends. 238x88mm (9.3x3.5in). 284 LNER Rug woven in hard wearing cord in blue and grey. “LNER” block lettering to each end within a Greek key border. A small area of very light discolouration otherwise v.g.c. and very stylish. 1745x755mm. (68.7x29.7in).
273 Pre-grouping official Publications: M&GNJR, GER, GNR, East Coast Joint. Seven items of which condition varies from good to fair. (7) 285 BR(NE) half flanged enamel Station Totem Sign “Driffield”. A former bent wing has been restored with great skill and execution of finish to leave a superb looking totem with deep colour and shine. A former NER station on the Hull - Bridlington Line opened in October 1846.
274 Oval cast brass Locomotive Builder’s Plate “The Vulcan Foundry (Limited) Newton-le-Willows Lancashire No. 5546, 1947”. As carried by LNER Class B1 4-6-0 Loco. No. 1188, BR No. 61188. To traffic 29/7/47 to Gorton. Later sheds were Leicester and Colwick where it spent two thirds of its life. The loco was also transfered to the Southern Region for one week in May 1953. Withdrawal came in Nov. 1965 to be cut up by Hughes Bolckow, North Blyth. The plate is in ex-loco condition. 230x133mm. (9x5.25in). 286 Carriage Print “Edale, Derbyshire” by Jack Merriott from the Midland Region (A) Series issued in 1950. v.g.c. An uncommon print in an original type glazed frame.
275 GER 8” (200mm) mahogany cased Wall Clock circa 1900 with a Smith’s going barrel movement with platform lever escapement held within rectangular plates. The case still retains its original Great Eastern Railway paper label issued by Stratford Works and is possibly branded “GER” below as this was the normal practice. The dial is written “BR 2384 Smiths Empire”. LNER records show that this clock was last located at Cambridge station Parcel Office. Prior to this at Littleport a station north of Ely. The clock is in fully overhauled working order complete with key. 287 Great Eastern Railway First World War Service enamelled Lapel Badge. Good condition.
276 Furness Railway Company silver plated Teapot by Walker & Hall. Clearly face incised with the “FRC” monogram. Minor service plate wear otherwise v.g.c. 288 GNR large 3 aspect Handlamp. The top is stamped “GNR 11829”. The body stamped “GNR 8065” and brass plated “London & North Eastern Railway Horton Junct. 4” (damaged). Complete with “LNE” vessel and burner, reflector and all glasses. Restored. A Bradford location and junction for the City Road Goods Branch.
