241 LMS sepia photographic Carriage Print with the title panel “Cheltenham Pittville Gardens”. A very sylvan scene of the lakeside walk amidst the trees leading to a Georgian stone bridge. v.g.c. and in an original type glazed frame. 253 French Railways double royal pictorial Poster “Alpes” featuring typical artwork by Salvadore Dali incorporating his trade mark surrealistic images with butterflies. Issued by S.N.C.F. in 1970. v.g.c. and rolled only. No folds.
242 Original ink on linen Drawing titled “M.S. & L.R. Extension to London Proposed M.S.&L. and GNR Joint station at Nottingham”. Drawn to a scale of 41.66 feet to one inch the drawing includes much detail of the station with all rooms designated by use as well as trackwork, signal boxes, other facilities and neighbouring roads. The drawing is titled “Engineers Office Nottingham Sept. 13th. 1896” in right corner. An invaluable work for students of this station which opened as Nottingham Central in May 1900, re-named Victoria in June 1900 and closed in Sept. 1967. Only the clock tower now remains. The plan has two short tape stains to right end otherwise v.g.c. In a glazed frame. 1525x525mm. overall (60x20.6in). 254 Railway Executive BR Scottish Region double royal Poster “The River Tweed See Scotland By Rail” featuring impressionist style artwork of the river valley by Norman Hepple issued in 1955. Minor edge nicks and light folds and a tiny loss to top centre.
243 London & North Western Rly. steel Bottle Opener. Both sides clearly incised “LNWR”. v.g.c. 76mm. (3in) long. 255 LNER quad royal pictorial Poster “Lincoln by LNER” featuring stunning artwork by Fred Taylor of a busy scene down by the Brayford Pool with the magnificent cathedral above. Minor edge wear but backed onto conservation paper.
244 Oval cast brass Bi-lingual Locomotive Cabside Number Plate “Suid-Afrikaanse Spoorwee / South African Railways E1221 6E”. As carried by 3’-6” gauge Bo-Bo 3340HP dual cab Class 6E loco of which 80 were built by AEI (UK) and VCW (South Africa). They were fitted with the world’s most powerful electric traction motor when built. The plate is in very good condition lightly face polished and retaining original service painting. 256 Highland Railway 3 aspect Handlamp. The top with a brass collar bears an oval brass plate “J. Ratcliff & Sons makers Birmingham”. The body bears two brass plate “HR” and “Bilbster Station HR” complete with u/m vessel, LMS burner, reflector, copper lens cone and all glasses. Nicely polished and devoid of paint. A fine lamp. Bilbster station in the far north between Georgemas Jct. and Wick opened in July 1874 and closed in June 1960.
245 London & Birmingham Rly. untitled oval cast iron Bridge Number Plate “46”. Face restored only. From a structure between the Colne Viaduct and Nash Mills canal bridge. 257 “Great Northern Hotel Leeds” silver plated half pint Tankard by Elkington. The title nicely face incised, together with the weights & measure’s marks. v.g.c. This hotel was opened by the GNR in July 1869. It was badly damaged by fire in July 1906 subsequently repaired and was sold in Jan. 1952. Still open today.
246 Australian enamel Station Sign “Burwood” in very good condition with original channel brackets still fixed to the back. 930mm. long. (36.5in). 258 Enamel Advertising Sign “Stephens Ink for all temperatures” and incorporating the original glass thermometer tube and temperature graduations up to 140 degrees. Maker’s name to base “J.A. Jordan & Sons Bilston” and date marked “8/09”, so almost 100 years old! The back exhibits Stephens’ terms and conditions of display with other information. A fine early example in very good condition.
247 LMS wooden Signal Box Nameboard “Walney Ferry” with applied cast iron letters. Good unrestored condition 1720x250mm. (67.7x9.8in). This box was on Barrow Island and stood between Devonshire Bridge and the Old Walney Island Ferry. Walney Ferry and Devonshire Bridge boxes controlled traffic over the Devonshire bridge which was shared between road and rail. 259 Garstang & Knott End Railway 14in. mahogany cased roundhead Wall Clock with a chain driven fusee movement by Winterhalder & Hoffmeier Schwarzenbach, Germany. The movement plates being spaced via. shaped pillars. The re-written dial bears the legend “G&K.E.Ry. Garstang Town Station”. It also displays the unusual double outer band detail to the minute ring, a feature peculiar to some clocks manufactered by this company. Full working order complete with pendulum and key. This station was opened by the G&KER in Dec 1870 as Garstang. It closed two years later to be re-opened again by the G&KER in May 1875. It was renamed Garstang Town by the LMS in June 1934 and closed in March 1930. This clock was saved many years ago from the derelict station by the local coal merchant in who’s family it remained until acquired by our vendor approx. 20 years ago for restoration and subsequent display in his Garstang shop. A scarce clock from a very small railway company so this represents a unique opportunity as we are not aware of any other survivors.
248 Oval cast iron Locmotive Shedplate “40A” Lincoln. Face restored only. 260 Great Western Rly. mahogany cased Signal Box Block Switch. A cast brass face plate embossed “Out” and “In” with brass switch. Good ex-signal box condition.
249 Carriage Print “Barnard Castle, Co. Durham” by John C. Moody. A very detailed work by this artist of the town with the imposing ruined castle rising above the River Tees. A very scarce print from the LNER 1937-39 Series in good condition and in an original glazed frame. 261 Highland Railway untitled “Beware of the Trains” cast iron Notice. A scarce sign in very good unrestored condition.
250 M&GNJR (Midland Rly. pattern) Station Lamp Case in copper with cast finial and white glass roof panels from Weybourne. The station name appearing in two frosted blue glass panels (one broken). An impressive fully glazed lamp 890mm. tall (35in). Weybourne station between Melton Constable and Cromer opened in July 1901 and closed in April 1964. It was re-opened by the North Norfolk RPS in July 1975. 262 LNER cast white metal Paperweight featuring the famous ‘Hush Hush’ high pressure 4-6-4 locomotive No. 10000. A rare model in v.g.c. retaining its original oxidise finish and in its original presentation box with “LNER” fully titled label “High Pressure Compound Locomotive No. 10000 4-6-4”. The box is in v.g.c.
251 North Eastern Railway wooden Slotted Post Signal with wooden distant blade by McKenzie & Holland complete with miniature cast iron finial ( lacking zinc spike) and cast iron spectacle plate with red and green lenses. Applied cast numerals “P12” and metal plate stamped unusually “P12 GNR” and “148/09”. Spectacle surround and pivot plates are all embossed “NER SD” and “McK & H”. Basically very good original condition and a manageable 1650mm. overall height (65in). A rare opportunity to acquire one of these early signals. 263 Oval cast iron Locomotive Shedplate “88E” Abercynon. Ex-locomotive condition.
252 Nottingham Signal Instrument Plates: Five plastic plates from BR modular block instruments “Nottingham Platform East” (2); “Nottingham Platform West” (2); “Hotchley Hill” (1) together with an earlier trafolite plate with concave corners “Nottingham Station East No. 4 Bell Circuit”. All v.g.c. (6) 264 Lancashire & Yorkshire and London & North Western Joint Railways glass Water Carafe as used on the companies Anglo-Irish Steam Ships. Nicely face etched “L&Y & L&NWRy. Co.s” in a circular belted garter around a shamrock. v.g.c. and scarce 175mm. tall. (7in).
