217 “Blyth & Tyne Railway” black cloth covered Pocket Notebook covers with gold embossed company title to face. Handscript written inside “William ___? Blyth & Tyne Rly. Morpeth Oct 20th 1877”. A great rarity in v.g.c. The initial section of this railway opened in March 1847 and eventually ran from Blyth to Percy Main and branches. It amalgamated with the NER in Aug. 1874. Morpeth (Blyth & Tyne) station opened in April 1858 and closed in May 1880!! 229 Cast brass Locomotive Nameplate “Alfred E. Alcock”. This impressive nameplate was carried by 0-4-0ST. Built by Hawthorn Leslie (3919 / 1937) new to Dorman Long, Cleveland Works. To Acklam Works in Nov. 1962. The locomotive was named after the general works manager who retired on 31st. Dec. 1936. The nameplates were probably cast at Dormans Dock Street Foundry. In June 1963 stripped of its nameplates it was sold to Seaham Harbour Dock Co. and in Sept. 1967 went to W.F. Smith of Seaham for scrap. Face background repainted only and lightly face polished. 1908mm. (75in) long.
218 “LNER Peakirk” brass ‘Drum’ Lamp from a platform lamp interior. The title nicely brass plated. Complete with original burner and brandy glass globe. A former GNR station on the Peterborough - Spalding Line opened as Peakirk & Crowland in Oct. 1848. Renamed Peakirk in Feb. 1871 and closed in Sept. 1961. 230 Oval cast iron Locomotive Shedplate “16C” Kirkby-inAshfield then Mansfield then Derby. Face restored only.
219 LNWR wall mounted Electric Station Gong. The face plate of the electrics box is incised “L&NWRy. Crewe” and the cast iron back plate supports a fine 9.75in dia. bell with external hammer. v.g.c. 231 BR(M) half flanged enamel Station Totem Sign “Penmaenmawr”. The main area in superb condition save for a small chip to the first ‘N’ and a couple of chips to the white rim. Fine deep colour and shine. A former LNWR north Wales coast station between Bangor and Conway opened as Penmaenmaur in Nov. 1849. Renamed as the totem circa 1860.
220 Enamel Advertising Sign “Colmans Blue” with maker’s name “Patent Enamel Co. Ltd. B’ham”. Some face and edge chips but a nice early sign with superb deep colour and shine. 965x913mm. (38x36in). 232 Rolled coloured Signal Box Diagram “Rectory Junction” on plasticised paper with cut-outs for electric lights. Shows signals and lines through to Radcliffe on Trent station, the Cotgrave branch and the Colwick oil terminal. A nice diagram in generally v.g.c. 1900x470mm. (75x18.5in). The former GNR signal box now much downgraded still stands by the side of the river Trent on the Nottingham - Grantham Line at Colwick. See also lot no. 22.
221 North Eastern Railway Miniature 3 aspect Handlamp. The top is stamped “NER C. Dew” as is the original vessel. The body has an oval “NER” embossed brass plate. Complete with rape oil burner, “NER” reflector and all glasses. Restored. 233 Lancs & Yorks. Rly Tyers mahogany cased Permissive Block Instrument. The internal mechanics being incomplete(removed behind the commutator knob). Externally a very fine, handsome looking instrument in v.g.c. Branded “LYR” under the base.
222 Brass Locomotive Whistle as carried by Peckett Saddle Tank named “Victoria” which worked for the National Coal Board at Whitehaven. v.g.c. and lightly polished only. 245mm. tall (9.6in). 234 Enamel Advertising Sign “Spratts Chikko for Chicks”. Spratts owner’s title and code number to bottom edge. Minor edge chips only otherwise a lovely enamel with fine deep colour and shine. 750x496mm. (29.5x19.5in).
223 “Great Northern Railway Refreshment Department” so marked China: Blue titles and coats of arms; large oval platter, two teaplates, cup and saucer and a single cup together with a “GNR Dining Car” black monogrammed soup bowl and a “GNR Temperance Society” oval garter title sandwich plate. All pieces are in good condition except one of the cups which has a small repaired crack. (8). 235 Carriage Print “Loch Morar, Inverness-shire” by W. Douglas McLeod from the Scottish Region Series issued 1956-57. A charming view of the loch with the mountains beyond. A very light creases to bottom left margin otherwise v.g.c. In an original type glazed frame.
224 Great Western Railway fully titled cast iron Bridge Restriction Notice “To Owners and Drivers of Locomotives etc.” Face restored a while ago. 236 GWR untitled enamel Sign “None but authorized employees allowed to ride on this vehicle”. Thought to originate from a permanent way trolley or similar. General edge wear with a few light face chips only. 380x70mm. (15x2.75in).
225 Hornby ‘O’ Gauge clockwork No. 201 Tank Goods Set comprising LMS 0-4-0 Tank Locomotive No. 2270, mineral wagon, LMS cattle van, Shell Motor Spirit tanker wagon, circle of track and original winding key. All in good condition and in original box which is in fair condition. 237 Metropolitan Rly. rectangular cast iron Bridge Plate “MR 96” in good unrestored condition.
226 Carriage Print “Alnmouth, Northumberland” by S.R. Badman from the LNER 1945 - 47 Series. A detailed bird’s eye view of the resort by the North Sea with the East Coast Main Line amidst the trees in the foreground. v.g.c. and in an original type glazed frame. 238 “LMS Steamers” silver plated shell shaped Butter Dish by Elkington. The title nicely top marked within a laurel wreath. v.g.c.
227 “Jacob & Co’s. Biscuits” Advertising Picture with Japanese style border and artwork by Gordon Nicholl featuring the company’s product with oriental figures and a floral display. In its original black ebonised glazed frame with a moulded design incorporating the title “Jacobs Biscuits” running around the total perimeter. Minor losses to ebonising otherwise v.g.c. and very stylish & scarce. 740x520mm. overall (29x20.5in). 239 LMS silver plated half pint Tankard by Walker & Hall. Nicely face marked “Federation of LMS Rifle Clubs League Division 1 1928 - 29”. v.g.c.
228 Great Western Railway Office Lamp. Originally a gas powered lamp later converted to electric. Comprises a shaped cast brass base with patent number, a swan necked support arm with filigree brass decoration stamped “GWR” and an adjustable bell shaped glass shade with acid etched decoration. The gas tap is also stamped “GWR”. v.g.c. and 440mm. tall (17.3in). A splendid and scarce item originating from the company’s offices at Exeter. 240 A pair of North Eastern Railway cast iron ‘Serpent’ Platform Seat Ends from Strensall station on the York to Malton line. Very good condition apart from a tongue is missing from one of the snake’s mouths. 945mm. (37in) tall. Strensall station opened in July 1845 and closed to passengers in Sept 1930 for regular traffic but remained open on a restricted basis for several years after.
