145 “L&NW & GW Joint Lines 55” oval cast iron Bridge Numberplate. Face restored only. 157 BR(Sc) fully flanged enamel Station Totem Sign “Upper Greenock”. One small re-touched chip to blue area and a shallow bump to flange at right end otherwise very good condition with good colour if a little ‘flat’. A very scarce totem from this former Caledonian station opened in May 1865 and closed in June 1967.
146 Carriage Print “The River Ouse, Naburn, York” by S.Agnew Mercer. One of only two prints by this artist from the 1954 series. v.g.c. and in an original glazed frame. 158 “LNER 2” oval cast iron Bridge Number Plate from Ayot on the former GNR Welwyn - Dunstable line. Casting code “B100” and face restored only.
147 BR(M) double royal size “British Railways” enamel Poster Board Header. Two re-touched screwhole chips otherwise v.g.c. with very good colour and shine. 159 GWR mahogany cased Spagnoletti Signal Box Block Instrument for double line working “Line Clear / Train on Line” flags and “Clearing Point Fouled” / “Train at Signal” cast brass flaps. Good ex-box condition.
148 Automobile Association double sided enamel Road Sign “Oundle 10 1/4” with “AA” badge by Franco Signs. General service chipping and minor corrosion losses to flange but with good colour and shine. 758x260mm. (30x10.25in). 160 Pictorial Advertising Enamel Sign “Palethorpes Fresh Today” featuring a coil of sausages. “Imperial Enamel Co. B’ham” maker’s name to bottom. Only one significant chip to the blue area otherwise v.g.c. with good colour and shine. In a wooden frame 980x445mm. overall (38.5x17.5in).
149 LMS silver plated Hot Chocolate Glass Holder with loop handle and four feet by Mappin & Webb. “LMS Hotels” clearly marked in a vertical panel on the face of one of the legs. v.g.c. & unusual. 161 SNCF Acetylene Handlamp. The lamp’s top cowl and screw in brass base reservoir are both embossed “SNCF”. Clear glass to front opening door and blue glass to both side panels. Very good ex service condition.
150 Circular cast brass German Plaque as presented to Willi Hargens Oballokomotive Fuhrer Husum on 40 years service 1918 - 1958. Husum is a city in north west Germany. An attractive plaque featuring early 4-4-0 and then current express steam locos in relief. Most unusual. 200mm (7.75in). dia. 162 North Eastern Rly. oak cased Bracket Clock of circa 1890. The 6.5in silvered brass dial has Roman numerals and displays the legend “BR(NE) 6904”. Accessed by a brass framed door with bevelled edged glass. The quality going barrel movement in fully overhauled condition has rectangular plates spaced via turned pillars. The back plate bears the maker’s initials “W&H Sch” (Winterhalder & Hoffmeier Schwarzenbach, Germany). The clock is in an oak case with classical features of fluted and carved columns supporting a portico with carved centre. The facade has a finish to resemble jointed masonry. LNER records show that this clock was located at York station in the Chief Legal Advisor’s Office, Room 26. A rare and unusual timepiece used by some of the railway’s top brass. Full working order complete with pendulum and key. 420mm. (16in) tall.
151 Great Northern Rly. large 3 aspect Handlamp. Top and body stamped “GNR 3085”. Complete with integral vessel, burner, reflector, all glasses and a copper lens cone. The lamp stands on four ball feet and could be from the West Riding as many 3000 series examples were. Restored. 163 Set of Great Western Railway cast iron Milepost Fractions. 1/4, 1/2 & 3/4 all on their integral tubular posts with base feet. All restored a while ago. Each is 1585mm. (62.4in) tall. This is a rare opportunity as these are scarce. Most being replaced in service. (3).
152 Cast brass Maker’s Plate “Sentinel” as carried by a steam lorry manufactured by this company. Ex vehicle condition 317x78mm. (12.5x3in). 164 Brass Single Line Tablet engraved “Cloughton - Stantondale 3” (sic). A section of former NER Scarborough to Whitby Line. Cloughton and Staintondale stations closed with the rest of the route in March 1965.
153 “McVitie & Price Biscuits” pictorial Advertisement featuring impressive artwork of a stag’s head. In its original company glazed oak frame with “McVitie & Price” impressed in all four sides. v.g.c. and scarce. 870x673mm. overall (34.25x26.5in). 165 BR(LMR) double royal pictorial Poster “Carlisle Travel there in rail comfort” with distinctive artwork by Kerry Lee undertaken in 1953. Lee painted a series of posters of other English cities in this style and always included a cariacature of himself in each subject. The poster is in v.g.c. with no folds.
154 Great Central Railway Steam Locomotive brass Whistle complete with lever and valve. Probably from a Class 04 2-8-0. Very good condition, nicely polished and impressive. 410mm. tall (16in). 166 Great Southern Railways of Ireland double royal pictorial Poster “Ireland for happy holidays” with artwork by W. Till of three peasant women with baskets of peat in mountainous scenery. Minor edge nicks only. v.g.c. with no folds. Also included is a GSR(I) official publication of 1938 with 32pp. and folding map with the covers displaying the same artwork. v.g.c. (2).
155 LMS cast brass Locomotive Nameplate “Bradshaw” as carried by ‘Patriot’ Class 4-6-0 built at Crewe Works in 1933 and numbered 6006. Later re-numbered 5518 and BR 45518. It received its name Bradshaw in 1939. In BR days it was shedded at Carlisle Kingmoor, Edge Hill and Aston. Withdrawal came in October 1962 and we assume cut up at Crewe Works. The nameplate is in fine condition with one punch mark in the back to denote left hand side plate. Face restored and polished only. 877mm. long (34.5in). Patriot Class nameplates are seldom offered for sale so this is a rare opportunity to acquire one. 167 BR(LMR) quad royal pictorial Poster “The Dee at Chester” by Norman Wilkinson issued in early BR days in March 1948 so a nice transitional image. Fine and typical Wilkinson artwork of the river scene. Minor central fold losses otherwise v.g.c. and backed onto conservation paper.
156 Two Great Northern Rly. rectangular Harness Decoration Horse Brasses. Both engraved “GNR” in different styles & shapes. Variant of Hawthorn type 38. Lacking rear fixing sprigs (2). 168 Oval cast iron Locomotive Shedplate “71G” Bath Green Park then Weymouth. Face restored only.
